My Feelings

Yay! When I’m feeling happy, I can:

Make others feel happy too! Happiness feels even better when it’s shared.

 

I can help myself to stay happy by remembering:

  • There are people who care about me
  • I can be grateful for all that I have
  • I can follow my dreams
  • I can be as happy as I choose to be
  • I can take pride in my accomplishments
  • I can be good to myself
  • I am courageous

Grr! When I’m feeling angry, I can:

  • Slowly count backwards
  • Breathe in for four seconds, hold it four seconds, let it out four seconds
  • Ignore the person
  • Walk away
  • Talk to an adult about my feelings
  • Visualize a STOP sign
  • Say to myself “Chill Out!”
  • Do the turtle (pull head in toward body)
  • Robot/ragdoll (tighten my muscles like a robot then loosen them like a rag doll)
  • Think of a time I handled my anger well to remind myself I can do it
  • Remind myself how badly I feel when I get in trouble for losing my temper

Eeek! When i feel Nervous, i can...

  • Put on music and dance around my room
  • Relax by listening to music, reading, watching a movie, or taking a bath
  • Get support for myself by talking to a friend, my family or a nurse
  • Ask for a hug to help myself feel better!
  • Read funny stories, a joke book or watch a funny movie. Laughter is the best medicine!

When i feel scared, i can...

  • Put on music and dance around my room
  • Relax by listening to music, reading, watching a movie, or taking a bath
  • Let out my frustration by punching a pillow!
  • Get support for myself by talking to a friend, my family or a nurse
  • Let out my feelings by writing in my journal
  • Ask for a hug to help myself feel better!
  • Read funny stories, a joke book or watch a funny movie. Laughter is the best medicine!

When i feel loved, i can...

  • Tell the people I love how I feel, and show them that I care

When I’m feeling guilty, I can remind myself:

  • It is not my fault that I am sick
  • There are people who care about me
  • There is no need to be ashamed of how I am feeling. Everyone has feelings – good and bad.

When i feel jealous i can...

  • There are things that I do well
  • There are people who care about me
  • I can be grateful for all that I have

When i feel sad i can...

  • There are people who care about me
  • I can be grateful for all that I have
  • I am wiser and stronger now
  • There are things that I do well
  • I can’t change others but I can change myself
